Trisagion

Trisagion
The term means "thrice-holy," referring to the refrain "Holy God, holy and mighty, holy and immortal, have mercy upon us," which is chanted at the beginning of the Eucharist (q.v.) in the eastern church. Peter the Fuller, Monophysite patriarch of Antioch (qq.v.), added to this important refrain the phrase, "Who was crucified for us." This was obviously Theopaschitism (q.v.), and it resulted in Peter's exile in 471.
